Most vegan proteins you'll find on the market are made from one core protein source, which is most often soy, rice, pea or hemp. Here at Neat, we decided to mix two of these together - pea and hemp - to create an optimum plant-based protein blend...
Why Pea and Hemp Protein?
Whey protein is made from dairy, and is a complete protein, meaning it naturally contains all nine of the essential amino acids your body needs to get from your diet. However, this is not the case for most vegan protein sources. In comparison to many other sources, hemp scores quite highly and has a more comprehensive blend of these amino acids.
Meanwhile, pea protein has the benefit of being the closest to a whole food protein source and is also high in the amino acid lysine. Many vegans lack lysine in their diets. It's used by the body to produce carnitine – which your body uses to make energy from fat - and also helps the body absorb calcium and produce collagen... pretty crucial stuff!
So there you have it, we use a blend of 80% pea protein and 20% protein not only to make sure you get a smooth-textured, tasty shake, but also to make sure it is the optimum blend for your body. Perfect for those who follow a plant-based or dairy-free diet, it's also free from soy and gluten too.
