Q&A

How did you get started in health and fitness?

My journey into the health and fitness industry came from being in the opposite industry – PR and events in Central London. Having played tennis at an international level prior to helping coordinate some of the most glamorous events in my job, I knew what tip top health felt like and the late nights and events were not giving me the same satisfaction and self-confidence I once knew. I decided to take a career jump and ever since, I have trained everyone I used to party and clink champagne with into mixing green juices and hiking with them along Ibiza coastlines at my retreats.

If you weren't in this job, what would you be doing?

I would be still planning parties and events in Central London, which by no means would have been a bad thing - I love coordinating events and witnessing the power of marketing and PR! I am just a lot healthier and happier in my current career.

What have you wanted to quit but didn't?

My mini Diet Coke addiction

Being so busy, what do you do to relax and why is it important to take time for yourself?

To relax, I reflect on everything that I have managed to achieve during the week, I take great pleasure in checking off my to do list so I might admire that rather than panicking what I have to do. It really organises my mind. I love watching movies with my partner Bart or strolling through the Amsterdam canals – my new home!

How do you recover from illness or feeling rundown?

I am always giving myself the best shot by taking multivitamins, I like VITL vits as they make it so simple and easy to stay guarded.

Lastly, why is being a Neat Ambassador important to you?

I feel like Pop-Up Fitness and Neat Nutrition have been on the same path since the ‘get go’, a whirlwind since we launched at exactly the same time. We have worked closely ever since we introduced our brands to each other. I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Neat Nutrition take over the industry as much as I have enjoyed developing my own business. The boys behind the brand are honest and real – they have a product that works and isn’t designed to confuse or even over impress you. The product tells you how it is, it doesn’t promises but my god it delivers, so you can say I feel proud to represent an honest and true product that I can thoroughly trust will look after my clients on and off retreats.

Meals & Workouts

What’s your ‘Day on a Plate’? (e.g. what do you eat on a typical day: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, Neat supplements)

Breakfast: Bran flakes/Steel cut oats/Neat Nutrition protein pancakes

Lunch: Quinoa salad with nuts, chicken, avocado and spring onion +1 egg

Dinner: Stir frys with chicken/prawns, salmon and veg, my favourite is steak tartar!

What’s your favourite workout?

My favourite week will consist of many different workouts. Its not the workout but the feeling afterwards that I am addicted too, and all the different methods give you a different emotion and post workout feeling. I must say, boxing is my favourite but I enjoy clearing my head with a run and toning up in lower intensity barre workouts. It’s all about mixing up to keep yourself interested.

What exercise do you dislike?

I am not a massive yogi by any stretch of the imagination – I really appreciate bikram yoga and on the occasion that I want a good stretch but I wouldn’t be the first to sign up for a downward dog. Give me a burpee and a kettle bell any day.

Favourite shake recipe and why?

I love the vegan berry flavour with coconut milk, ice and frozen berries. The boys loved this when I told them why…. It honestly took me right back to my early days when I first tried a strawberry milkshake from Macdonalds!!!

What's your favourite healthy snack?

My favourite snack definitely has to be nuts, as boring as that sounds.

What's your favourite guilty pleasure snack?

A little bit of chocolate goes a long way with me!!

Where is the best place to eat well in London?

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you were older?

I wanted to be like Anna Kornikova – a tennis star who had a very strong brand herself, with her own modelling career, clothes line and tennis racquet range… I always have admired people who juggle a few cool things all under one umbrella.

Q&A

How did you get started in health and fitness?

I’ve always been an “athletic” person but was never particularly good at anything aside from riding horses, which isn’t exactly a super accessible sport. As I outgrew that, my competitive spirit and love for the ocean funnelled me towards competitive surfing which again, haha I was terrible at. Ultimately my love for activity and challenge morphed into CrossFit when Lee (Neat Founder) guilted me into signing up for a trial.

If you weren't in this job, what would you be doing?

Adventuring somewhere, attempting to live off the grid probably and surf as often as possible. That’s also what I’m working towards. I like the job title “adventurist” so maybe figuring out what that means.

What have you wanted to quit but didn't?

2 things:

Surfing. Learning to surf is terrible; I got my ass handed to me over and over. I felt like I was going to drown, I broke my nose, I broke my boards, I had sand everywhere, everything about it just sucked. Then, I figured it out, I mastered the duck dive, I rode a wave, I learned to turn, I felt the spray of a barrel and then I realized that entire struggle made those feelings that much sweeter. I am happy I didn’t quit the million times I wanted to.

CrossFit. If you ever wanted to learn about body control, start CrossFit. I swear, when I started the coach would be like “Hey, lift your left foot.” and my right hand would move. It’s ridiculously challenging and at times can be incredibly frustrating and at the same time incredibly rewarding. Again, as things began to start making sense, similar to surfing, I realized that the journey is just part of it, lean into that discomfort. Ultimately there’s no need to quit, just try harder until you eventually succeed.

Being so busy, what do you do to relax and why is it important to take time for yourself?

I walk my dogs. I really like them, I think they are fun to hang out with and I don’t always bring them to the gym so when I am home and don’t have much going on we go for long walks. (There’s 3 so it’s always interesting.) Plus, they don’t talk or text so it’s nice to just be quiet.

How do you recover from illness or feeling rundown?

Sleep. I love, love, love to sleep. I also like to sit in a hot shower, 100% of the time I feel better after I shower, who doesn’t?

Lastly, why is being a Neat Ambassador important to you?

I think it’s really.. for lack of a better word… Neat! What Lee and Charlie are creating. I am honored to help spread the word. I think entrepreneurship is really cool and I am super happy I can do my part to support my friend through something that I love.

Meals & Workouts

What’s your ‘Day on a Plate’? (e.g. what do you eat on a typical day: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, Neat supplements)

Breakfast: Black coffee with a vegan blueberry scone from Whole Foods. I could, and usually do, eat this every day.

Lunch: Pretty much 4 times a week I have black beans, tempeh, and rice. I don’t know why: it’s easy and good, and packs a nice nutritious punch.

Dinner: Depends on the mood, this will sound terrible but I eat a lot of vegan pizza. I love sautéed broccoli rabe on top with “sausage”. If you want to get me to go out with you somewhere… offer me pizza!

I also supplement smoothies pretty often.

What’s your favourite workout?
I love to Olympic Lift. I feel so confident and strong after a good lifting session.

What exercise do you dislike?

I don’t really dislike any exercise. It’s all fun, even the hard stuff, you just have to get through it then you feel great after.

Favourite shake recipe and why?

Simple: Coffee, Almond Milk, Peanut or Almond Butter, Vanilla or Chocolate Vegan Neat, Banana, BlueBerries

Need a whole day’s worth of meals in this one blender: Almond Milk, Frozen banana, blueberries, dates, cashews, chocolate protein, cannelini beans, and peanut butter.

What's your favourite healthy snack?

Vegan Jerky.

What's your favourite guilty pleasure snack?

Toast. I know, it’s weird, but seriously I love sourdough toast.

Where is the best place to eat well in London?

Haha I don’t know, I’ve only seen it on TV (I live in Florida)

Give us an easy 30 minutes or less meal and work out:

I’ll give you an easy no equipment necessary workout and if you hustle you’ll get under 30 minutes just in time for your post workout protein shake.

Run 600 meters then do 25 air squats.

Run 800 meters then do 25 pushups.

Run 1200 meters and do 25 burpees.

Run 300 meters and walking lunge back to start (300m).

It takes about 25 min, then you get to sit in front of the fan while you shake up your shake!

Quickfire Round

Let’s get to know you a little better:

If you were a brand, what brand would you be and why?

Patagonia. Have you seen their social media? It’s on point. I want to be a part of every photo. Patagonia also has been paving the way for other brands to do their part by raising tons of money for environmental grants. Most recently the company donated 10 million dollars, all of their Black Friday sales, to some grassroots non-profit organizations that are working to protect our environment. Hell yea, someone has to.

Most played song on your playlist?

Is it bad that I don’t have a playlist? I listen to NPR in the car on the drive and play whatever people want to listen to during class. I can workout in silence, I don’t mind.

Must see TV?

Eh, I am not much of a TV person, unless the Patriots are playing, then I watch with my guy.

Movie you’ll watch over and over?

Not much of a movie-er either.

Favourite city?

I don’t really have one, each place I’ve been is special in it’s own sense.

Where do you do your weekly shop?

I’m much more of a daily shopper. I hit Whole foods, Trader Joes or the Farmers Market for all my goodies. I’m a bargain shopper so I don’t care if I go to a few places as long as what I’m getting is Organic and great quality.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you were older?

A Grand Prix Equestrian rider.

Q&A

How did you get started in health and fitness?

My father is a former US Olympic swim coach who started an international swim camp in South Florida (fun fact: that’s how I know Charlie and Lee!). I grew up on a pool deck, so health and fitness was simply in my blood. After years of competitive swimming, I took my skills out of the water, and onto the road competing in road races.

If you weren't in this job, what would you be doing?

That’s easy, working for Lee and Charlie, walking around and sharing the world of Neat Nutrition!

What have you wanted to quit but didn't?

I recently signed up and ran the NYC Half Marathon on a whim, I wanted to scratch and not run it, I was exhausted from all the travel I had been doing for work, and hadn’t trained in weeks. I ended up going out, giving it my all, and ran a best time!

Being so busy, what do you do to relax and why is it important to take time for yourself?

I honestly love a nice run through the park, no distractions, no conversation – although I am always up for a solid binge session on the couch watching Homeland, and Law and Order SVU. It’s important to wind down, and give your body a little rest.

How do you recover from illness or feeling rundown?

Sleep, and fluids, sleep and fluids

Lastly, why is being a Neat Ambassador important to you?

I always want to share things I enjoy with my friends, and family. I genuinely get excited anytime I am speaking about it, so I think when you love a brand so much, it is hard not to be an ambassador for it, formally or informally.

Q&A

How did you get started in health and fitness?

Keeping fit and healthy has always been in my routine, I was taught since an early age to be outside and active as often as possible but now more than ever keeping in shape is really part of my job. I need to be healthy firstly to keep up with the fast pace of this style of work; city to city in the matter of hours, pacing the sidewalks from jobs to meetings to fittings. The endless travelling could easily be enough to break down the immune system of an ox, considering the hours on a plane, the jet lag and then to do a full day shooting; its easy to wear down. I make sure I keep dosed up on my vitamins and healthy eating plans, I have watched my diet intake since I realise we can prevent health issues rather than just tackle them once they have arrived. Fitness – I have always enjoyed working out, it clears my head and something that’s possible in every country I go to, I love to run around New York, bike around Amsterdam, surf in South Africa or workout in the hotel rooms in the other cities. Adaptable fitness is key for me, I can’t rely on there being a gym since I may be in a jungle or in the middle of the Namibian desert. I keep it simple and high intensity but I make sure I do it, to look the part and most importantly, feel the part!

If you weren't in this job, what would you be doing?

I would most definitely be a fire fighter.

What have you wanted to quit but didn't?

My love of a nice strong espresso!

Being so busy, what do you do to relax and why is it important to take time for yourself?

I take long walks alone. This is great because I can do this anywhere. I won’t take my phone with me so I can take in my surroundings and think through important matters. It is extremely important to take time for yourself to stay in balance. If you work hard and you play hard you also need to rest hard from time to time and recharge.

How do you recover from illness or feeling rundown?

I eat grapefruit, take the Neat Multivitamins and drink ginger tea.

Lastly, why is being a Neat Ambassador important to you?

I love the ‘naked’ brand. I am all for natural products with no hidden ingredients and the boys have done this, including being so informative about the benefits of the product as well as being totally honest with the process of making the protein. It’s an aspirational brand and I think the boys are a great representation of their own brand, fit health and no bullshit (excuse me!)

Meals & Workouts

What’s your ‘Day on a Plate’? (e.g. what do you eat on a typical day: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, Neat supplements)

Breakfast: Steel cut oats with coconut/almond milk with lots of added ingredients like banana, goji berries, mixed seeds & cinnamon. No sweetener.

Lunch: Quinoa salad with nuts, chicken, avocado and spring onion, egg + rocket salad.

Dinner: Salmon and veg; asparagus and spinach with a melted cottage cheese sauce.

What’s your favourite workout?

My favourite workouts are core focused, quick HIIT training combining lots of balance techniques i.e. weights on bosu ball

What exercise do you dislike?

Its necessary to do, but I don’t enjoy leg day.

Favourite shake recipe and why?

Natural Neat Protein with cold water, splash of coconut milk, cinnamon, a teaspoon of peanut butter and banana + few ice cubes in a blender. I love this because it tastes naughty but its not!!

What's your favourite healthy snack?

“Powerball” made from blitzing dates, cacao powder, cashews, almonds and goji berries also with a pinch of chilli powder!

What's your favourite guilty pleasure snack?

Apple pie!

Where is the best place to eat well in London?

I like the Good Life Eatery when I’m in town for their kale salad and a peanut butter cup!

Give us an easy 30 minutes or less meal and work out.

Stir fry:

Literally throw in as many colours, shapes and sizes of veg you can find, or at least like, into the wok with some coconut oil, gently season with some soy and a pinch of salt and pepper. If you have a sweeter tooth you can even add few pineapple chunks or a tablespoon of sweet and sour sauce. I like to cook salmon for on top of the pile of sweet and sour veg, and mix in some cashew nuts as the finishing touch.

Circuit:

I do a circuit with 5 exercises - 10 reps. I do the circuit 4 times. The exercises are; step ups with 25kg extra weight (core bag), press ups, weighted jack knives, weighted squats (core bag), soldier planks.

You can change that up everyday with different exercises – just focus on having at least one of each; lower body, core exercises and a whole boy ‘fix’.

Quickfire Round

Let’s get to know you a little better:

If you were a brand, what brand would you be and why?

‘Double RL’ because it’s a traditional brand but brought back to new, I have traditional values but love new and exciting things. I appreciate quality and respect work and relationships that are long lasting and improve/progress over time. It is an outdoors brand and I am all about being in nature and being active outside as much as possible. They also love motorbike inspired gear and I am a bit of a motor rider!
